What will a trip to Amsterdam cost?

Estimate the cost of a stay in the Dutch capital at three budget levels. Getting to Amsterdam is not included.

Budget level

What a stay in Amsterdam costs

In Amsterdam, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €220 a night in a four-star hotel and about €580 in a five-star. February is the cheapest month; April, with the tulips and King's Day, is the most expensive.

A 1-hour GVB ticket costs €3.40, a day ticket €10 and a 7-day ticket €43. The train from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam Centraal takes about 17 minutes and costs €5.20 (2025 NS full fare); the €20 one-day Amsterdam Travel Ticket covers that train too. The tourist board puts a taxi at about €35–55.

The biggest attraction costs are the Rijksmuseum (€25), the Van Gogh Museum (from €25) and the Anne Frank House (€16.50, online tickets only). The first two are free for anyone under 18, and walking along the canals or taking the ferry across the IJ costs nothing.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
