What a stay in Athens costs
In Athens, accommodation is the biggest cost, and prices depend heavily on the season. According to KAYAK, an average double room costs about €190 a night in November, the cheapest month, and about €450 in June, the most expensive.
A 90-minute ticket costs €1.20 and a 5-day ticket €8.20. From the airport, bus X95 to Syntagma Square costs €5.50 and the metro €9; taxis charge a flat €50 by day and €65 at night. The €20 3-day tourist ticket includes the airport trip each way.
An Acropolis ticket costs €30 and the Acropolis Museum €20. Plaka, Anafiotika and the changing of the guard at Syntagma Square are free.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
