What a stay in Boston costs
Boston is one of the most expensive US cities for accommodation. According to KAYAK, a room averages about $302 a night in a four-star hotel and about $694 in a five-star. December is the cheapest month and April, when the marathon is run, the most expensive.
The subway and buses are cheap: a ride costs $2.40, a 1-day pass $11 and a 7-day pass $22.50. From Logan airport, the Silver Line SL1 bus and the Logan Express are free into town; the ride back costs $2.40 or $3.
The historic Freedom Trail is free to walk. The biggest attraction costs are the New England Aquarium ($39.95), the Museum of Fine Arts ($30) and a Fenway Park tour ($30). Add tax and tip to restaurant prices.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
