Budget level

What a stay in Copenhagen costs

Copenhagen is one of Europe's most expensive cities, and accommodation and food cost the most. According to KAYAK, a room averages about DKK 1,120 a night in a four-star hotel and about DKK 3,390 in a five-star. January is the cheapest month and August the most expensive.

A 2-zone ticket costs DKK 24 and a 24-hour City Pass DKK 100. The metro or train from the airport takes about 15 minutes and costs DKK 30; the tourist board puts a taxi at about DKK 250–400. An adult with a ticket can take two children under 12 free.

The main attractions are Tivoli Gardens (entry from DKK 200), Rosenborg Castle with the Crown Jewels (DKK 140 online) and the Round Tower (DKK 60). Nyhavn, the Little Mermaid and Christiania are free.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
