What will a Corsica road trip cost?

Estimate the cost of driving around Corsica: the whole island in just under two weeks, or a week in the west or the east. Getting to the island is not included.

What a Corsica road trip costs

There are three routes to choose from, all planned and driven by the site's author. The whole island is a loop from Bastia: 12 days, 11 nights and about 620 miles through Cap Corse, Calvi, the Gulf of Porto, Ajaccio, Bonifacio and Corte. Western Corsica (Calvi, Porto, Ajaccio) and Eastern Corsica (Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio) are one-week versions for one side of the island.

The cost depends most on when you go. In July and August rooms cost up to twice as much as in May or early October, and they are hard to find. We price the car per vehicle, not per person: the rental for the whole trip and fuel for the whole route, at a gasoline price refreshed every night from French government data.

For attractions we add what is really worth paying for on each route: the boat trip from Porto to the Scandola reserve, Napoleon's house in Ajaccio, the boat trip to the caves and the King of Aragon's Staircase in Bonifacio. Beaches, mountain roads and gorges are free. You can bring your own car on the ferry; like flights, the ferry is not included.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
