What a stay in Istanbul costs
In Istanbul, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about TRY 4,840 a night in a four-star hotel. March and November are the cheapest months and May the most expensive. The lira loses value quickly, so lira prices change often.
A subway, tram or bus ride with an Istanbulkart costs TRY 46.20. The same card works on the city ferries across the Bosphorus, the cheapest cruise in town. We do not show an airport transfer price because we could not find one from an official source.
The biggest attraction costs are Topkapı Palace with the Harem (TRY 2,750), the Basilica Cistern (TRY 1,950) and Hagia Sophia (€25). The Blue Mosque is free outside prayer times.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
