What will a trip to Lisbon cost?

Estimate the cost of a stay in the Portuguese capital at three budget levels. Getting to Lisbon is not included.

Budget level

What a stay in Lisbon costs

In Lisbon, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €220 a night in a four-star hotel and about €345 in a five-star. January is the cheapest month and September the most expensive.

The metro takes you from the airport to the center on a regular €1.90 ticket; a taxi with the tourist office voucher costs €16 by day and €19.20 at night. A 24-hour ticket for the metro, trams and buses costs €7.25, and the card that tickets are loaded onto costs €0.50.

The biggest attraction costs are the Oceanarium (€25.50–29.90), the Jerónimos Monastery (€18), St George's Castle (€17) and Belém Tower (€15). With several sights on your list, the Lisboa Card is worth it: €31 for 24 hours, public transport included. The viewpoints, Alfama and the church of the Jerónimos Monastery are free.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
