What a stay in Lyon costs

Lyon is clearly cheaper than Paris. According to KAYAK, a room in a four-star hotel averages about €140 a night. January is the cheapest month and September the most expensive.

The city has a metro, trams, buses and funiculars up Fourvière hill. A ticket costs €2.10, a 24-hour pass €6.90 and a 72-hour pass €18. The Rhônexpress from the airport costs €15.20 one way when bought online.

With several museums on your list, the Lyon City Card is worth it: €29.90 for 24 hours or €52.90 for 72 hours, with public transport and the city's museums, including the Musée des Confluences. The Fourvière basilica, Old Lyon with its traboules and the Tête d'Or park are free.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
