What a stay in Madrid costs
In Madrid, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €220 a night in a four-star hotel and about €520 in a five-star. August is the cheapest month; September and October are the most expensive.
A metro ride costs €1.50–2 and a 10-ride ticket €7.30. From Barajas airport, take the metro with the €3 airport supplement or the Exprés Aeropuerto bus for €5; a taxi to the center has a flat fare of €33. The Tourist Travel Pass (from €10.30 a day) covers the airport with no supplement.
A Prado ticket costs €15, but entry is free for the last two hours before closing. The Royal Palace costs €18. Retiro Park, the Plaza Mayor and the Temple of Debod are free.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
