Budget level

What a stay in Malta costs

In Malta, accommodation is the biggest cost, and prices rise in summer. According to KAYAK, hotels in Sliema are cheapest in November and most expensive in August; a four-star room in St. Julian's averages about €115 a night.

A bus ticket costs €2 in winter and €2.50 in summer and is valid for 2 hours; the 7-day Explore Flex costs €27. From the airport, the Airport Direct bus runs to Sliema and St. Julian's for €3. The round-trip ferry to Gozo costs €4.65.

St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta costs €15 and the Grand Master's Palace up to €12. The streets of Valletta, Mdina and the Upper Barrakka Gardens overlooking the Grand Harbour are free.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
