What a stay in Milan costs
In Milan, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €200 a night in a four-star hotel and about €530 in a five-star. December is the cheapest month and February the most expensive.
The metro and trams are the easiest way around. A 90-minute ticket costs €2.20, a day ticket €7.60 and a 3-day ticket €15.50. The Malpensa Express train from the airport costs €15.
The biggest attraction costs are the Duomo with its terraces (€22 by stairs, €26 by elevator), the Pinacoteca di Brera (€20) and the Last Supper (€15, booking required). On the first Sunday of the month the Brera and the Sforza Castle museums are free.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
