Budget level

What a stay in Porto costs

Porto is cheaper than Lisbon. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €160 a night in a four-star hotel and about €260 in a five-star. February is the cheapest month and September the most expensive.

The metro from the airport to the center (line E, about 30 minutes) costs €2.30; a taxi averages €20–25. You can walk around the center, and a central-zone ticket costs €1.40. The Andante card for tickets costs €0.60.

The biggest attraction costs are the Serralves Foundation (€24), the Lello bookshop (€15.95, deductible from a book purchase), the Bolsa Palace (€14) and the Clérigos Tower (€10). Ribeira, the Dom Luís I Bridge and São Bento station with its azulejos cost nothing.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
