What a stay in Stockholm costs

Stockholm is one of Europe's pricier cities. According to KAYAK, a room averages about SEK 1,210 a night in a four-star hotel and about SEK 3,300 in a five-star. January is the cheapest month and May the most expensive.

A 75-minute SL ticket costs SEK 43, a 24-hour ticket SEK 180 and a 7-day ticket SEK 470. From Arlanda airport, take the Flygbussarna bus (from SEK 129), the commuter train with an SL Arlanda ticket (SEK 200) or the Arlanda Express (SEK 340, about 18 minutes); airport taxis have a maximum fare of SEK 800–825.

The biggest attraction costs are the Vasa Museum (SEK 195 from October to April, SEK 240 in summer) and ABBA The Museum (SEK 269–349). Gamla stan and the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace are free.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
