What a stay in Venice costs

Venice is one of the most expensive cities in Italy, and accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, November is the cheapest month and September the most expensive. The room prices in the calculator are our own estimate; during Carnival and the film festival they usually rise sharply.

You get around on ACTV water buses: a 75-minute ticket costs €9.50, a day pass €25 and a 7-day pass €65. From Marco Polo airport, the bus to Piazzale Roma costs €10 and the Alilaguna water bus €18. A taxi to Piazzale Roma has a flat fare of €40.

The biggest attraction costs are the Doge's Palace with the St Mark's Square museums (€35, or €30 online 30 days ahead), St Mark's Basilica (from €10 to €30 with the Pala d'Oro, museum and terrace) and the bell tower (€15). A gondola officially costs €90 for 30 minutes, per boat.

How we estimate

These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.

For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
