What a stay in Vienna costs
In Vienna, accommodation is the biggest cost. According to KAYAK, a room averages about €130 a night in a four-star hotel and about €365 in a five-star. January and February are the cheapest months and June the most expensive; prices also rise in Advent, during the Christmas markets.
Public transport is cheap: a 24-hour ticket costs €9.70 and a 7-day ticket €25.20 (digital prices). From the airport, the S7 train costs €5.50 and the City Airport Train €14.90; until October 2027 both run with limits because of construction work. A taxi to the airport booked ahead has a flat fare of €37 to €42.
The biggest attraction costs are Schönbrunn Palace (€42), the Upper Belvedere with Klimt's The Kiss (€23) and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (€22 online). Visitors under 19 get into the Belvedere and the Kunsthistorisches Museum free.
How we estimate
These amounts are estimates built from publicly available prices: average accommodation prices for the month and typical daily spending on food, public transport and attractions. For months where we found no data, we filled in our own estimate. Actual prices depend on your dates and where you stay.
For children up to 12 we assume 60% of an adult's food cost and 50% of an adult's attractions cost. At budget and standard level we price families with children an apartment or family room for up to four people; at luxury level one room takes two adults and one child. These are our assumptions. The luxury level has no upper limit, so we show a “from” amount.
